RTE CONFIRMS THE OPERATIONAL START-UP OF THE TAMAREAU-TAVEL LINE, WITH CONDUCTORS SUPPLIED BY GENERAL CABLE, MANUFACTURED AT VICTORIA PLANT (IN SPAIN) - ECN
ECN (Vitoria-Spain), a company that has belonged to the General Cable Group since 2006, leader in the cable sector worldwide, has supplied the conductors required to lay a large electricity line in the environs of the cities of Avignon, Nimes and Montpellier in the French region of Provence.
The order for Tamareau-Tavel line No. 2 was placed by the company RTE, the operator that manages the French electricity transport network and that recently commissioned the line.
The operation included the supply of around 1,300 km (4,300 mT) of ACSS 883-mm² conductor, manufactured at ECN’s facilities. Work to install the line involved the companies Forclum (Eiffage group), Omexon-EEE (Vinci group), Ineo (Suez group) and Cegelec. RTE has therefore reinforced the 2x(400 kV) axis between Tamareau and Tavel in response to the demand for increased transport capacity experienced in recent years.
This historic milestone represents completion of the first of RTE’s projects to boost the French 2x(400 kV) transport network with ACSS conductors and a 110 km double circuit duplex 400-kV line.
RTE is also working on another 1x(400 kV) project between Lapraz and Villarodin, this time with ACSS 1317-mm2 conductor and at altitudes of up to 2,100 metres. These conductors are also being supplied from ECN facilities in Vitoria. It is a project for the electrical interconnection of France and Italy through the Maurienne Valley (French Alps).
